8vo., First Edition, First Issue, with frontispiece and numerous illustrations (many full-page) in the text; original green cloth, gilt back, one corner slightly bruised, a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped, very lightly rubbed dustwrapper, the latter chipped at head and tail of backstrip (not affecting lettering). Bright copy of the first volume of Lee's autobiographical trilogy, set in the village of Slad in Gloucestershire and with striking dustwrapper and illustrations by John Ward. This is the first issue, with the passage on the 'regular' fire at the piano-works (p.272), subsequently suppressed as the result of an action for libel.
