With a great profusion of large folding maps, plates from woodcuts and fine lithographic plates, a number tinted, and with extensive illustrations throughout the text, a vast array and all important for the understanding of Layard's brilliant discoveries. 8vo, publisher's original ribbed brown cloth beautifully decorated with blindstamped borders around the figure of an Assyrian King. The King is depicted in gilt on the upper covers and blind on the lower. The spines also decorated in blind and with gilt lettering. xxiii, 336; 337-686, [2 ads]. A very fine copy in the uncommon two volume format., one of the brightest we have seen, the bindings tight and strong, the text-blocks clean and bright, probably a never used copy but for the unfolding of maps, near as pristine.
