Wien, Geologische Reichsanstalt, 1911. 8vo (25.0 x 18.0 cm). 180 pp.; 50 text figures, three folded maps, including the 345 cm long full-colour profile in rear pocket. Later blue cloth over marbled boards. Gilt title on the spine. = The core of this paper is formed by the very large profile of a large section of the Alps; it took the authors five years to complete and brought them to view the Alps as a "Gesamterscheinung, als einen Bewegungssorganismus". Published in the Anstallt's Jahrbuch, and neatly bound for its former owner, the Austrian geologist Alexander Tollmann (1927-2008). His small, pencilled, name is above the drophead title. A very good copy; rare in this state. Several book dealers offer this work at a very low price, but, apparently, these cheap copies lack the humongous profile.
