8vo., First Edition, with numerous plates and 4 maps (one double-page) in the text; red cloth, gilt back, a very good, clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Cookridge and Foot were the two pioneer historians of SOE in Europe and both their accounts have stood the test of time. Whilst the latter's SOE in France (1966) had official blessing, Cookridge's work is perhaps the more accessible. If nothing else, they launched a minor industry of scholarship and given that they were writing before the release of the 'Ultra' papers and the SOE files in general, performed a very creditable role.
