Previous owner's label (Professor Gilbert) on title page. No other marks or inscriptions to contents. Minor creasing to covers. Very clean very tight pages with dusty, lightly marked boards, foxing to page edges and no bumping to corners. 112pp. Ten historical episodes in the life of Manchester from the founding of the Roman fort of Mancunium in 79 AD to the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal by Queen Victoria in 1894 are here set out in descriptions of each event followed by specifically written words of short plays to commemorate each. This 'Book of Words' would have been spoken by individual players to an audience on each day of the Pageant.
