Strasbourg, Société d'Histoire naturelle de Strasbourg, 1852. Large 4to (31.0 x 24.0 cm). Drophead title, 130 pp.; ten lithographed plates of which one finely hand-coloured. Contemporary blind wrappers. = A very uncommon, if not rare, detailed monograph of the woodlice of Strasbourg and surroundings, i.e., the Rhine valley and adjacent mountain ranges at the French-German border. Nicely illustrated - the coloured plate showing 19 specimens belonging to 11 species. The author, medical doctor Dominique Auguste Lerebouillet (1804-1865), was a professor of zoology and anatomy at the Strasbourg university and published more on Crustacea and insects. Offprint from the society's Mémoires. Uncut. With the widest possible margins. Binding weak; wrappers somewhat frayed and creased at the edges; light foxing throughout, otherwise very good, complete.
