A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked red cloth boards, very slightly dusty page edges and no bumping to corners. Dust jacket not price clipped or marked with small tear and creasing to upper rear edge and sunning to spine. 290pp. The author who was elected Speaker of the House of Commons in 1971 traces the development of the office from 1258 and compares, from the records of former Speakers, his definitions of the job with those of his predecessors.
