Mostly on Samoa and New Hebrides, the author describes the peoples, their customs, society, wars, mythology, language, canoes, clothing, food, amusements, as well as his activities there. The very large folding table compares the dialects for 24 islands for about 120 words. An appendix gives the meteorological data averaged over seven years for each month of the year.
