Descrizione
A beautiful watercolor, measuring approximately 870x670 mm (1110x900 mm with frame), depicting an imaginative view of an interior in a spectacular Baroque and Oriental style. Another version of this work is known to exist, dated 1900 and preserved in a private collection in Ferrara.
Giuseppe Ravegnani, a painter and scenographer from Rimini, was known as one of the best artists in the genre of interior views in Bologna as late as the 1850s. This genre was not abandoned in his later years when he settled in Ferrara and directed the Dosso Dossi art school from 1880. These two paintings clearly demonstrate his talent as a set designer, undoubtedly influenced by the teachings of Francesco Cocchi (cf. G. Zavatta, Precisazioni e aggiunte per il pittore Giuseppe Ravegnani, in: “Romagna Are e Storia”, 2010, 88, pp. 55-56).
