Descrizione

The Illustrated Junior Library edition. Wonderfully illustrated by Earl Goodenow with ten plates in full colour and numerous black and white drawings throughout, many of which being quite large. Tall 8vo, in the publisher's original decorated cloth featuring an all-over full colour pictorial illustration wrapping around both covers and the spine, the spine features a blue label simulating morocco, gilt lettered and decorated in a Minaret motif. Retaining the original clear acetate dustjacket. [iv], 327, [1] pp. A very good copy, internally fine, clean and fresh. The binding illustrations still very bright and attractive, a little mellowing to the ivory cloth, particularly to the tips and corners, the clear jacket with some edge wear and chipping and a bit cloudy and toned. The white lettering on the jacket faded away.

Edizione: a wonderfully illustrated edition of the arabian nights, earl goodnow's bright colourplates and vivid black and white drawings have a fun eastern esthetic fitting the subject. this beloved grosset and dunlap series of books provided an unbeatable combination of fine colourplate illustration, near-private-press-quality printing and especially bright and appealing decorated cloth at an affordable price.<br> fourteen stories are provided here, including such favorites as sinbad, ali baba, and aladdin. the text appears to be an abridged version of edward william lane's translation, which is far more suitable for young readers than that of sir richard burton. lane's translation was highly popular throughout most of the 20th century.
