Jean-Édouard Dargent, noto come Yan' Dargent e negli ultimi anni Yann Dargent, nacque a Saint-Servais il 15 ottobre 1824 e morì a Parigi il 19 novembre 1899. È stato un pittore e illustratore francese. La maggior parte dei suoi dipinti raffigurava la Bretagna. Nel 1850 si dimise dal suo lavoro presso le ferrovie e si trasferì a Parigi deciso a guadagnarsi da vivere con l'arte, ma in modo indipendente e senza legarsi a un particolare studio/laboratorio ("atelier") e, al fianco di Gustave Doré, divenne noto come illustratore affermato. La sua produzione come illustratore nel corso degli anni fu prolifica. Molte delle sue illustrazioni sono apparse su "La France illustrée", "Le Tour du Monde", una rivista di viaggi diretta da Edouard Charton e pubblicata da Hachette et Cie, "La Chasse illustrée", pubblicata da Firmin Didot et Cie, "L'Exposition universelle illustrée de 1867", pubblicata da Dueuing, e "Le Korrigan", una rivista artistica bretone di Parigi. Jean-Édouard Dargent, known as Yan' Dargent and in his later years Yann Dargent, was born in Saint-Servais on 15 October 1824 and died in Paris on 19 November 1899. He was a French painter and illustrator. Most of his paintings depicted Brittany. In 1850, he resigned from his job with the railways and moved to Paris determined to make a living from art but independently and not attached to any particular studio/workshop ("atelier") and, alongside Gustave Doré, became known as an accomplished illustrator. His output as an illustrator over the years was prolific. Many of his illustrations appeared in "La France illustrée" as well as "Le Tour du Monde" a travel magazine edited by Edouard Charton and published by Hachette et Cie, "La Chasse illustrée" published by Firmin Didot et Cie, the "L'Exposition universelle illustrée de 1867" published by Dueuing and "Le Korrigan", a Breton artistic journal In Paris.
