Bulino, circa 1599, della serie ' ANTIQUARUM STATUARUM URBIS ROMAE LIBER PRIMUS, ideata, incisa e stampata a Roma da Philippe Thomassin. Esemplare nel primo stato di due. Philippe Thomassin fu incisore e editore, nativo di Troyes, attivo a Roma a partire dal 1585. Nel 1588 iniziò a pubblicare le sue opere. Nel 1589 iniziò la collaborazione con Jean Turpin; la loro società venne descritta nell’atto di scioglimento del 19 gennaio 1602 come devota alla ‘pratica della pittura e incisione, per l’acquisto e la vendita di incisioni stampate da loro o per loro ordine, per vendita all’estero al dettaglio e all’ingrosso.’. Nel 1590 fu arrestato e interrogato dal Santo Ufficio per un ritratto - che avrebbe inciso - di Enrico IV di Francia. Nei suoi primi anni a Roma lavorò per editori come Claudio Duchetti, Lorenzo Vaccari e Marcello Clodio. Comprò vecchie lastre, anche un gruppo dagli eredi di Aliprando Caprioli nel 1599 per il quale richiese un privilegio di 10 anni a Papa Clemente VIII nello stesso anno. Nel1603 pubblicò due incisioni di Francesco Villamena. Baglione disse che amava concentrarsi di più su soggetti religiosi, ma non in maniera esclusiva, come mostra l’importante collezione ' Antiquarum Statuarum Urbis Romae. Bellissima prova, impressa su carta vergata coeva, con margini, minime ossidazioni, per il resto in ottimo stato di conservazione. Bibliografia E. Philippe Thomassin was an engraver and publisher, a native of Troyes, active in Rome from 1585. In 1588 he began publishing his works. In 1589 he began a partnership with Jean Turpin; their company was described in the act of dissolution of January 19, 1602 as devoted to 'the practice of painting and engraving, for the purchase and sale of engravings printed by them or by their order, for sale abroad at retail and wholesale.' In 1590 he was arrested and interrogated by the Sacro Offizio for a portrait-which he would engraved of Henry IV of France. In his early years in Rome he worked for publishers such as Claudio Duchetti, Lorenzo Vaccari and Marcello Clodio. He bought old plates, even a group from the heirs of Aliprando Caprioli in 1599 for which he requested a 10-year privilege from Pope Clement VIII in the same year. In 1603 he published two engravings by Francesco Villamena. Baglione said he liked to focus more on religious subjects, but not exclusively, as the important collection ' Antiquarum Statuarum Urbis Romae ' shows.
