8vo., LARGE PAPER, with fine etched frontispiece (original tissue guard present), and 6 etched plates, ALL DELICATELY COLOURED BY HAND; attractively bound in nineteenth century green half morocco BY CARSS OF GLASGLOW, marbled boards ruled in gilt, back with five raised bands, second compartment ruled and lettered direct in gilt, all other compartments elaborately framed and tooled in gilt, gilt top, marbled endpapers, uncut, a remarkably well-preserved, fresh, crisp, clean copy in wholly unrestored period binding. With the binder's ticket on front free endpaper verso, and trade ticket of Kerr & Richardson of Glasgow on front paste-down. The charming plates are by Rhodes after Thurston. A SPLENDID EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY EDITION OF SWIFT'S FIRST MAJOR PUBLISHED WORK AND ARGUABLY HIS MOST FAMOUS SATIRE. The notes by Wotton first appeared in the fifth edition of 1710; the unsigned footnotes are by Swift himself. LARGE PAPER COPIES COPIES ARE EXCESSIVELY SCARCE. See NCBEL II, 1057-8.
