In-4°, cc.2, 100 cc. di tavv incise, mancano 65 e 67, la tavola 61 è doppia, legatura in pergamena morbida.La sua attività si svolge fondamentalmente a Roma, dove si forma nel vivace ambiente dell’incisione che aveva fra i suoi maestri Marcantonio Raimondi ed Enea Vico. Come loro, anche Cavalieri si dedica a incisioni che riproducono i capolavori dei maestri rinascimentali, in particolare Raffaello (Strage degli Innocenti e opere ispirate alla Stanza della Segnatura), Michelangelo (il Giudizio Universale e la Crocifissione di San Pietro citata dal Vasari).Il successo di Cavalieri si dedica anche all’attività di documentazione delle antichità romane, in particolare nei quattro volumi Antiquarum statuarum urbis Romae, pubblicati dal 1561 al 1594, che testimoniano le statue antiche delle principali collezioni romane.Cavalieri svolge un ruolo fondamentale anche nella diffusione del repertorio iconografico della Controriforma, con opere come l’Ecce homo conservato nelle collezioni del Castello del Buonconsiglio o la serie dedicata alla Madonna di Loreto e del Rosario. Celebrano la storia della Chiesa di Roma anche le 230 incisioni che rappresentano ritratti di papi raccolte nel volume Pontificum Romanorum effigies.In-4°, cc.2, 100 cc. engravings, 65 and 67 are missing, 61 is doubled. Cavalieri’s activity takes place basically in Rome, where it is formed in the lively environment of the engraving that had among its masters Marcantonio Raimondi and Enea Vico. Like them, Cavalieri also dedicates himself to engravings that reproduce the masterpieces of the Renaissance masters, in particular Raphael (Massacre of the Innocents and works inspired by the Stanza della Segnatura), Michelangelo (the Last Judgment and the Crucifixion of San Pietro mentioned by Vasari).Cavalieri's success is also dedicated to the documentation of Roman antiquities, in particular in the four volumes Antiquarum statuarum urbis Romae, published from 1561 to 1594, which testify to the ancient statues of the main Roman collections.Cavalieri also plays a fundamental role in the diffusion of the iconographic repertoire of the Counter-Reformation, with works such as the Ecce homo preserved in the collections of the Castello del Buonconsiglio or the series dedicated to the Madonna of Loreto and the Rosary. The 230 engravings representing portraits of popes collected in the volume Pontificum Romanorum effigies also celebrate the history of the Church of Rome.
