Paris, Société Géologique de France, 1838-1851. 11 volumes in 11. 8vo (22.5 x 14.0 cm). Numerous pages; several profiles (some large, folded) original blind or printed wrappers. These are the results of the yearly extraordinary gatherings of the French geological society. The regular meetings were held in Paris, but these extraordinary meeting were hosted in different towns all over France, allowing to meet local geologists and to survey various geologically interesting places. Each contains a list of participants, descriptions of outcrops, etc., and, usually, a plate showing profiles, etc. The list of host towns is as follows: 1838 Porrentruy (Switzerland), 1839 Boulogne, 1840 Grenoble, 1841 Angers, 1842 Aix les Bains, 1843 Potiers, 1844 Chambéry, 1845 Avallon, 1849 Épernay, 1850 Mans, 1851 Dijon. In fact, the 1838 meeting could be the first. The rather ephemeral character of these published results make them uncommon, and these early volumes even rare. Currently, the website of the French geological society does not even mention them in their historical review, goinbg back to 1852, except for the 1842 gathering in Aix. Mostly uncut, with wrappers rather worn, especially at spine folds, otherwise very good.
