Veduta tratta da L'Univers Pittoresque. Histoire et description de tous les Peuples.- Italie -Par M. le Chevalier Artaud, stampato a Parigi dall’editore Firmin-Didot nel 1835. L’opera contiene oltre 100 incisioni relative al territorio italiano nella sua interezza, ai suoi panorami, ai suoi monumenti, a illustri personaggi della storia d'Italia; 24 delle vedute sono dedicate alla Sicilia. Autori delle incisioni furono artisti come Rouargue, Lemaitre, Thienon, Fortier, Ollivier. Prima edizione, nell'àmbito de L'Univers. Hstoire et Description de tous les peuples. Guida stesa per la parte relativa all'Italia da Artaud de Montor (Parigi, 1772 - 1849), dell'Institut de France, e, per quella afferente alla Sicilia, da De La Salle, socio corrispondente dell'Institut stesso. Si tratta di un libro storico e geografico assai interessante, ma contiene anche assai nozioni che, per certi versi, lo possono far considerare non un libro di viaggio ma una guida. Dei due autori il più conosciuto è Artaud de Montor, diplomatico per lunghi anni attivo a Firenze e a Roma, traduttore di Dante e biografo di Pio VII. The work contains over 100 engravings relating to the Italian territory in its entirety, its panoramas, its monuments, and illustrious figures in the history of Italy; 24 of the views are dedicated to Sicily. Guide compiled for the part relating to Italy by Artaud de Montor (Paris, 1772 - 1849), of the Institut de France, and, for that pertaining to Sicily, by De La Salle, a corresponding associate of the Institut itself. This is a very interesting historical and geographical book, but it also contains a lot of notions that, in some ways, can make it consider it not a travel book but a guidebook. Of the two authors, the best known is Artaud de Montor, a diplomat for many years active in Florence and Rome, translator of Dante and biographer of Pius VII.
