Descripción
Folio (ca. 253 x 335 mm). V, (1), 34 pp. With 24 numbered coloured plates. Contemporary printed boards. The first coloured facsimile edition of the Book of Kells, one of the most famous medieval manuscripts and an exceptional example of insular illumination from the early 9th century, by the lawyer and Lord Chancellor of Ireland, Sullivan (1882-85). Apart from a scholarly description of the manuscript, 24 pages of the Book of Kells were reproduced as facsimiles by the means of polychromatic photography and colour-printing, showing some of its most splendidly illuminated parts. From the library of the Viennese collector Werner Habel, with his stamped ownership to the pastedown.
