pp. 236, (4) [Theosophical Socity ads]. 8vo. 200mm. Publisher's green cloth binding with cover stamped in off white and black decorated with a black hooded figure reading sleepily or deep in thought sitting by a tree. Gothic unical style lettering on cover and spine. Covers crisp with the varnish still on the illustration. Hardbound. Very Good+. Michael Wood was the pseudonym of Joy Hooper, who was a regular contributor to the Theosophical Review, became a devout mystic. In this work she blends religious mysticism with rural folklore and legend. Many felt that she vitalized the essentials of incommunicable mysticism in a dreamy atmosphere. The stories include: The Saint and The Outlaw; The Dream Garden; 'Lox'; The House of Hate; The Fool and the Folk of Peace; The Prince and The Water Gates; The Way of the Herb Gatherer; The Land of Marvellous Night'; The Sinner's Requiem; The Preacher; The Teller of Drolls; The Guardian of the City; and The Tumultuous Shadows. It is a frequently overloked classic of English supernatural fiction. Scarce. OCLC records less than 10 examples in U.S. libraries. NW59
