Four curious men came together to tell the story of a lost railway in Istanbul. At first all they had were small trains a handful of coal and a breath of steam. Years passed and they learnt a great deal from the documents and albums they had found and from a fifth author of a notebook that had come from the past and joined them by chance. The small trains carrying coal to the heart of the city from a coal mine in the Black Sea coast of Istanbul, were not just heroes of a nostalgic tale. Behind the curtain we opened, there was a huge military project where 5000 people had worked once in sweat and tears. We do not recount anything more or less than what we saw. We wish that those who read the story and see the photos are able to come into contact with history with the same amazement admiration and pleasure that we have.
