In the earliest letter, dated 8 December 1926, Franc-Nohain suggests two titles, "Fables et Monologues" and "Dites-nous de Franc Nohain", and inquires after Stock's terms. - However, Legrand was not willing to accept the conditions offered by Stock and suggested abandoning the project on 5 January 1927: "Je n'ai jamais signé de traité avec un éditeur sans qu'il fût précisé que le pourcentage s'appliquerait aux exemplaires fixés, payable d'avance sur la totalité des tirages. Renonçons donc à un projet qui, aussi bien, ne présentait sans doute de grand intérêt ni pour vous ni pour moi [.]". - Despite a recipient's note "refusé" on this letter, Franc-Nohain stayed in touch with Stock and, on 16 December, thanked Delamain for his opinion on texts that he had sent him.
