8vo, [4], 154pp., from a institutional library now dispersed, several small stamps, contemporary half calf, spine and corners heavily rubbed, covers detached, 4,145 items. John Hatchard founded the business in 1797 when he was twenty-nine years of age. He had served his apprenticeship with a bookseller named Ginger, and thereafter went to the famous shop of Thomas Payne at Mews Gate. Hatchard quitted Payneís service on June 30th, 1797, and having prepared the way he opened a shop in Piccadilly. John Hatchard died on June 21st, 1849, and Thomas, his son, who succeeded him, died in 1858. Not found on Copac.
