Descripción
6 vols., 8vo., First Edition, with 6 frontispieces, around 800 photographs and over 100 maps and diagrams in the text; original pictorial red cloth, upper boards blocked and lettered in black, backs blocked and lettered in gilt and black, covers lightly dust-soiled else a very good, bright, clean set. The set comprises: Vol. I: The First Phase 1914; Vol. II: Extension of the Struggle 1915; Vol. III: The Allies at Bay 1916; Vol. IV: A Year of Attrition 1917; Vol. V: The Year of Victory 1918; Vol. VI: The Armistice and After. Very good set of Hammerton's second history of the conflict, following his monumental 'The Great War' produced in collaboration with H.W. Wilson during the fighting years. The current work embodies the gist of post-war revelations and official documents, and each volume contains a useful 'diary of events'. In addition, biographical particulars are given of those in the various countries that figured prominently in the struggle. COMPLETE SETS ARE UNCOMMON IN THIS CONDITION. Enser, p.166.
