Descripción
New York, NY, American Museum of Natural History, 1919-1927. Two works in two. 8vo. x, 370 pp., 162 text figures, 23 plates (eight in full colour), errata sheet; [AND] 533 pp., 94 text figures, 67 plates, 15 maps. Later uniform red buckram with gilt title on the spines. = The complete Congo. The first work written by Pilsbry alone. With many new species (and new genera) clear keys, fine text engravings and photos. In the second work, 47 plates show shells, the first, on the variable Neritina glabrata Sowerby is shown in full colour. The other plates show habitats. Molluscs of big African lakes, especially lake Tanganyika, but also lake Edward and lake Albert, are included. A massive work. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpapers, recto and front wrapper or title. Scarce. An attractively uniform bound, clean set as this one is very uncommon.
