Prima edizione di questo ampio trattato sulle pietre da costruzione e sulle pietre ornamentali: rocce granitiche, rocce porfitiche, rocce serpentine, marmi e alabastri, quarzi, ecc. Lo Hull (Antrim, Irlanda, 1829-Dublino, 1917) fu illustre geologo, professore al Royal College of Science di Dublino, presidente della Royal Geological Society of Ireland e fellow della Royal Society di Londra.
