Veratria is a poisonous vegetable alkaloid or mixture of alkaloids, obtained especially from various species of veratrum, particularly the white hellebore. It was used as an ointment for the relief of neuralgia, rheumatism, as discussed in this work. Turnbull also investigates its effects on ìAffection of the Heartî, paralysis, dropsy and gout.
