To the publisher Thomas Griffiths about an engraving the latter had commissioned: "Your plate being finished with the exception of a few hours work I beg you will inform me if it is your intention to have any line ruled round the subject it being a matter of fancy will you have the goodness to send me a pattern. I could wish Mr Stothard [i. e. the painter Thomas Stothard, 1755-1834] to see it again & that of course will take up time but if you can spare it till the middle of next week I shall be able to see him & let you have it by that time without fail [.]". - The engraving in question presumably appeared in Griffith's 1825 English edition of "Solitude", translated from the German work of Johann Georg Zimmermann, featuring engravings by Rolls, Rhodes and Corbould after paintings by Stothard.
