Descripción

8vo. 1 page on bifolium sheet, wove paper. To August Platte: "With much pleasure I see from your welcome letter, the interest which you have taken in my work [.] should very much like to read your marginal notes, in whatever form they take […]" (translated from the German original). - August Platte, a high official of the Austrian state railways, was a prolific writer on technical aspects of flight from the 1870s onward. The reference is to Platte's marginalia in a copy of Der Vogelflug, Lilienthal's first substantial publication which was published the year before. German engineer, businessman and aviator Otto Lilienthal (1848-1896) was remembered by no less an authority than Wilbur Wright as the man who "made the greatest contribution to the solution of the flying problem that has ever been made by any one man". - Slightly spotty, otherwise in perfect condition. - From the Otto Kallir Collection of Aviation History (Sotheby's, June 1993).
