Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A talented portraitist, Pellar was frequented by several families of the Darmstadt high society, which earned him the byname "painter of elegance", but also devoted himself to miniature painting on ivory as well as to illustrations for magazines, including the "Fliegende Blätter". - A few small ink spots; postmark on verso slightly showing through. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
