This new text-picture-book, entitled "The German people's dream city", has already captured my fancy, the reason for my liking it is because this book does not claim something of Bamberg which can not be proven, on the contrary, it is based on facts of a survey taken in 1981, under scientific criteria, conducted in the 50 largest German cities with a population under 100,000. The results of this survey were very favorable for Bamberg, in that it stated, that the Bamberg citizens are the ones who felt most comfortable in their city and are the most satisfied, in short: they are the ones who love their city most. In our modern times where the word "homeland" had to be re-discovered, it is a very pleasant observation which can enchant us, and yet at the same time should remind us that the affectionate relationship the Bambergers have with their city, is something precious and has to be looked upon as a distinctly outstanding object, an object worth conserving.
I look upon this text-picture-book as a contribution to this necessary effort. It is a written and illustrated appeal to preserve this lovable and lively, unique city and to keep it well equipped in order to allow it to stay the dream city of its citizens.
I believe it is time for me to use this occasion for expressing my appreciation to the Frankischer Tag, who as the author of this book, has contributed immensly to the fact that Bamberg is being looked upon as the German people's dream city.
