Descripción

Berlin und Leipzig, Walter de Gruyter & Co., 1929. 8vo (22.0 x 14.6 cm). ix, 282 pp., six plates of which five in full colour, and one a double folded table, and black and white text figurus for a total of 34 figures. Contemporary half cloth over marbled boards. Printed front wrapper mounted on front board. = A fine, detailed zoogeographical end ecological study by the German herpetologist Rudolf Mell (1878-1970) with some emphasis on snakes, as all the full colour images are of snake species. Based on the Chinese herpetofauna the author recognizes four faunal subprovinces. Mell lived in China between 1908 and 1924 and wrote three popular books "each with a disproportionately large herpetological content" (Adler). As noted by Adler, this is his major herpetological work. Weak old stamps on the title page top margin and verso, otherwise a good, clean copy. Adler II, pp. 154-155.
