Contemporary handsome brown quarter calf. Five raised bands to spine, gilt on compartments, title lettered gilt on the second. Foolscap 8vo. (18 x 12 cm). In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 526 p. Occasionally slight stains on pages. Otherwise, a very good copy. Exceedingly rare Turkish edition of this eyewitness and firsthand account of the Greco-Turkish War in 1897, translated from the original English edition. As a special correspondent for The Daily Telegraph of London and war photographer, Ashmead-Bartlett accompanied the Turkish Army in Thrace during the Battle of Lule Burgas (28 October to 3 November 1912) and the subsequent retreat on the lines of Chataldja (today Çatalca). TBTK 4842, 5667.; Özege 20760.; As of 2023 September, OCLC locates thirteen copies (780182128 & 67182295), eight holdings in the American institutes: Princeton University Library, Columbia University Libraries, CTSFW Library, University Libraries at Virginia Tech, Carl B. Ylvisaker Library, Turpin Library, Alamo Colleges Northeast Lakeview College Library, and Hawaii Pacific University.
