About the Book:- Buddhism Its History and literature book. It is a compilation of the first six lectures delivered on Buddhism by Prof. T. W. Rhys Davids during the winter of 1894 - 1895 in Universities of Boston, New York, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Columbia, and Philadelphia. It contains lectures on religious theories in India before Buddhism, The literature behind the knowledge of Buddhism, Notes on Buddha's life, and the history and secrets of Buddhism. It was strange, and very characteristic of the real meaning of true Buddhism, that there was no life of Gautama the Buddha in the Buddhist scriptures. Buddhism should not be treated as a religion such as is understood by those who regard religion as consisting of certain beliefs and ideas concerning the soul and its destiny and of the various deities who are supposed to help or hinder human beings in the attainment of the ultimate goal.
