Sm. 4to., First Edition, with a coloured frontispiece, 70 coloured plates illustrating 430 species, and 25 illustrations in the text, fore-edges lightly spotted; original blue cloth, upper board and backstrip blocked, framed and lettered in black, a very good, bright, clean copy in bright, clean price-clipped dustwrapper. Nice copy of the third of the three original W&W Pocket Guides, essentially shortened single-volume versions of the original W&W volumes. This one is based on South's two classics 'The Butterflies' and 'The Moths' of the British Isles. Like all the Pocket Guides it was several times reissued. The original edition is very scarce in this condition. See Marren, pp.196-7.
