Spines with gilt bands and title. = This well-illustrated monograph by the Russian zoologist Vladimir Timofeyevich Shevyakov, or, in French, Schewiakoff (1859-1930) deals with Acantharia, a group of marine radiolarian protozoans from the Mediterranean. The skeleton forms show a wonderful variability. Most illustrations were made by the author and depict new or little-known species. Many species were first described by the famous zoologist Ernst Haeckel. This is the 37th monograph in the series, Fauna e Flora del Golfo di Napoli, or Fauna und Flora des Golfes von Naepel und der angrenzenden Meeres-Abschnitte. Herausgegeben von der zoologischen Station zu Neapel, which was published in 40 volumes between 1880 and 1982, however mostly in the 19th century, and only two volumes after WWII.
