Rare first edition (the work was reprinted in Sassari and Livorno in 19th century). Senator and expert in commercial law, Domenico Alberto Azuni graduated in law from the University of Sassari, his hometown. He first moved to Turin as an official of the “royal finances,” then to Nice, where he was appointed judge of the local commercial consulate. His Dizionario universale ragionato della giurisprudenza (‘Universal Reasoned Dictionary of Jurisprudence') brought him such renown that he was appointed senator by King Vittorio Emanuele I of Sardinia. He also held important positions under Napoleon and, after his fall, retired to Genoa. In 1826, he returned to Sardinia as judge of the commercial consulate in Cagliari and later became president of the university library.
