Six titles to the Encyclopédie, six titles with wood-engraved vignette, to the Agriculture volumes; pp. [xxxii, 766; 798; 831, xvi (index)]; Contemporary full tree calf; spines with elaborate gilt arabesques and gilt tile; boards with gilt dentelles, and gilt-rolled floral borders. Marbled endpapers; marbled edges [Volumes I-VI]; contemporary half calf [Volume VI]. = A seldom-seen part of the Ultimate Encyclopaedia and the largest of all great Encyclopaedias and the most important work published during the French Enlightement. Complete sets are rare. This section - complete in itself - was written by the French agriculturist and Roman Catholic priest, Henri Alexandre Tessier (1741-1837), and his compatriot and fellow-agriculturist André Thouin (1747-1824). In total, seven volumes were published. The last is very rare and not included. Mainly light wear to the boards and spines; a few hinges starting; the sixth volume present in a different, contemporary binding; otherwise a very good set. Schmitt, S.
