Five titles to the Encyclopédie, five titles with wood-engraved vignette, to the Antiquités volumes; title to the Chronologie des douze siecles antérieurs au passage de Xercès en Grèce; 3934 pp. [I: viii, 798; II: 722; III: 672, lviii; IV: 756; VI: 920]; three folding tables. Uniform 19th-century pebbled quarter cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt title. Speckled edges. = A rare part of the Ultimate Encyclopaedia and the largest of all great Encyclopaedias and the most important work published during the French Enlightement. This section - complete in itself - written by the French archeologist, numismatist, and art historian Antoine Mongez (1747-1835). A chapter on with Roman pagination numbers, and three tables, was written by the French historian, philosopher, orientalist and abolitionist, Constantin-François Chasseboeuf de la Giraudais comte de Volney (1757-1820). Light wear to the boards; some scattered, very light foxing; deminishing damp stain to the lower outer part of the first leaves of the third volume; otherwise a very good, clean set of the complete text.
