Encyclopédie Méthodique. Finances. I-III. [Complete].

Paris, Panckoucke, 1784-1787. Three volumes in three. 4to (25.5 x 20.2 cm). Three titles to the Encyclopédie, three titles with wood-engraved vignette, to the Finance volumes; 2359 pp. [12, lx, 685, iii; 787, iv; 797, iv]. Uniform contemporary mottled half calf (corners vellum) over marbled boards. Spines with five raised, gilt-bordered bands; compartments with gilt snowflake vignettes and red and black morocco labels with double-gilt borders and title. Edges speckled red. = A rare part of the Ultimate Encyclopaedia and the largest of all great Encyclopaedias and the most important work published during the French Enlightement. This section - complete in itself - written by the French writer, translator, and compiler Jacques Philibert Rousselot de Surgy (1737-1791). The first two parts are published in one thick volume each; the third and last volume was issued in two parts, as more usual for the Encyclopédie Méthodique, and then bound together. The first volume contains a 12 pp. avertisement and a 60 pp. (Roman numbered) preliminary part. The last part contains a 17 pp. (Roman numbered) description of the contents. A very good, complete set, with the errata correctly bound in in each volume. Contrary to what is indicated by Schmitt (p. 237), all three errata were published simultanously in the last part, in 1787. Some light wear to the spine ends and board edges; three text leaves folded before cutting, so with some excess paper in the margins, otherwise, a very good, clean and complete set. Schmitt, S.
