Caen, T. Chalopin, 1828. 8vo (21.0 x 13.6 cm). 312 pp. Original printed wrappers. = Rare early description of the geology of the Calvados area in Normandy, France. Written by Arcisse de Caumont (1801-1873) who is perhaps better known as an archaeologist and historian. Quite probably published on behalf of the Société Linnéenne de Normandie, probably this is an offprint of their Mémoires, however not including plates, as usual, although there are plate descriptions in the rear. Appaently, the plates were issued separately by the Société. Not in Ward and Carozzi, who only quote his Mémoire géologique de la Normandie occ. in 1825. The Cat. BM(NH) 1 p.328 only quotes the second edition of 1867. Dedicated by the author to the Congres Scientifique de Belgique. Uncut. Wrappers chipped at the edges and partly detached. otherwise a ver good copy.
