Descripción

Glasgow, Thomas Murray and Son, 1865. 8vo (19.0 x 13.5 cm). xii, 354 pp.; double-paged table, two geological hand-coloured lithographed maps, two lithographed plates, numerous steel-engravings in the text. Original embossed green cloth with gilt title on the spine. In transparent, protective plastic sleeve. = Written by the Irish naturalist and geologist James Bryce (1808-1877), this is the author's presentation copy to Sir Henry James, chief of the Ordnance Survey, as appears from the inscription on the title page. It mostly deals with the geology of this Scottish island. This is the third and last (i.e., best) edition. The two plain plates show neolithic artefacts. The marine zoology chapter has a long, annotated, list of chiefly Mollusca, dredged in Lamlash Bay. A probably new species of nudibranch is mentioned and given a short description. A very good, clean copy.
