According to Buijze, '.this is the first - and successful - attempt to write a Rumphius biography'. Written by the Dutch marine and teacher Pieter Arend Leupe (1808-1881), who became a Major in the Dutch East Indies army. Published in the academy's Natuurkundige Verhandelingen, volume 13. Uncut.
