Descripción
Two parts in one, complete. A very attractive copy of the first and only edition of one of the true monuments of Germanic philology. This is the first great German dictionary, and includes both words used in the 18th century and obsolete words back to the middle ages. For many entries it gives not only the definition but also equivalents in numerous other Germanic languages, both modern and extinct. Includes sections on etymology, on the genesis of letters, and grammar. Text in two columns. Large margins. Large thick folio, recent black buckram, all edges stained blue. Small piece missing from upper margin of title-page, otherwise fine. Brunet V, col. 1395: "Ouvrage estime et peu commun." Graesse VI, part 2, p. 407.
