Descrizione

RARE FIRST EDITION of a book from the 1920s, dealing with issues of narcotic addiction to cocaine. The book exposes the reader to different characters of cocaine-addicts, their behaviors and motives. Though moralistic and anti-drug in nature, the book nonetheless deals with an important but often neglected subject of that period. The cover of the first edition published by Die Schmiede in Berlin was designed by George Salter (1897-1967) (born Georg) - originally German, and from 1940 onwards US-American designer and set designer who revolutionized cover design for books, and is best remembered for his design for Alfred Döblins 'Berlin Alexanderplatz'. 185x120mm. 95 pages. Brown/black board Hardcover. Cover stained and rubbed. Cover corners bumped. Cover edges slightly bumped. Spine upper and bottom parts missing. The remaining part of spine hinges rubbed, edges tattered. Pencil inscription on front inner cover. Pages and inner cover yellowing and age-stained. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare first edition of an early literary treatment of cocaine addiction is in good reading condition.
