Filippo Negroli, one of the Negroli family of armorers, was the most innovative and celebrated of the renowned armorers of Milan. He was a virtuoso sculptor in steel, who transformed armors, helmets and shields into works of art, covered with exquisitely embossed and chased ornament. The book thoroughly re examines all the armors signed by Filippo Negroli, with many superb photographs of details of the armor. The core of the book is a thorough reexamination of all the armors signed by Filippo Negroli. Additional works are attributed to him, and lost works are identified. Each armor is described, illustrated and placed in the context of the maker's oeuvre. Bibliography.
