Includes typewritten letter from the editor, Roger Lee Deakins, to Professor Baker dated 1972, Firenze, Italia: "Dear Professor Baker: You should be reiving a complimentary copy of my edition of Ellis Heywood's Il Moro from Harvard University Press sometime soon after its publication date of Novmber 8, 1972. It is pleasant to be writing to you, after so many years have gone by, on the occasion of the publication of my first book. I regret not being able to autograph your copy, but hte cost of sending author's copies to Italy and back again was prohibitive. I hope you enjoy reading Il Moro. It is a dialogue on true happiness, written by John Donne's uncle. It is, then, in a very real sense, the fruit of the thesis I wrote for you (in '65!) on the Tudor Dialouge. I thought of the help you gave me on that thesis many times as aI was preparing the manuscript of Il Moro. In the time that has passed since writing the thesis, I've acquired a wife and a two year old daughter, and tenure at New York University. I'm here with my family until August, 1973, on a grant from the American Council of Learned Societies, preparing a bi-lingual edition of Cristoforo Landino's Camaldulensian Disputations with an extensive introduction on the theme of the active / contemplative life in Renaissance litearture. Alice is writing her COlumbia University Ph.D. dissertation (a linguistic analysis of the Paston Letters); Lucy Helyn is learning to play hide-and-seek in Italian at a state-run "nest", and all three of us are enjoying the splendid, if faded gentility of our flat in a cinquecento palazzo with 30 foot, but leaky, ceilings. If there is any chacne you will be in FLorence before next August, we'd enjoy very much seeing you. Best wishes, Roger Lee Deakins" Contents: Introduction - Ellis Heywood - The Structure of Il Moro - Contentment is in Riches - Contentment is in Honor - Contentment is in Love - Contentment is in Knowledge of the Physical World - Contentment is Fulfilled Desire - There is no Contentment to be Found - The Nature of True Happiness - Il Moro - Translation - Dedication to Cardinal Pole - Book I - Book II - Italian Text - Index ISBN 9780674587359
