Giovan Battista Belluzzi (1506-1554), called ?Sanmarino?, is one of the central figures in Renaissance military architecture. In the service of Duke Cosimo de? Medici, he updated the defences of the Duchy of Tuscany, applying the new rules of the Italian bastionated circuit, and wrote unpublished fortification treatises.
