Descripción
Sehr gutes Ex. - erwiegend illustriert. / (Eventuell "Bewerbungsmappe" des Knstlers?) / Mappe mit Farbkopien und Zeitungsausschnitten (franzsisch und englisch) ber den Knstler. - Kofi Setordji both sculptor and painter was born in 1957 in Accra. After having worked as a sell-taught commercial graphic artist, he began studying in 1984 with Ghanaian sculptor Saka Acquaye. In 1985, he discovered and became fascinated by Richard Hunt's metal work and began using metal in his own work the following year. He shows his work in the United States and in a number of European And African countries. In Accra, his work is shown at the Artists Alliance Gallery. - My sculpture is neither good nor bad: it is mine. Perhaps is its also yours and it is ours. Let's say that for better or worse this art expresses us. - Deeply affected By images of Rwanda on international television, he decided in 1998 to create an installation on the theme of genocide and worked almost exclusively on this project for a year and a naif. Throughout 1999 it will be exhibited in various places. He holds that this is his most important work to date. " Art is a therapy. Channeling my creativity is vital to me. My anger transforms into something positive as I hammer the metal and rock. If I work with clay, my bad feelings calm. When I'm freed of my troubles. I paint serenely and better When I create, it's a prayer to God ? He remains ironically surprised by his countrymen who regularly participate in funeral cults while never speaking ol death. In addressing genocide in his work, Setordji defines his role as an artist as being the conscience of his society. A composition using different kinds of material such as wood, metal, canvas, paint and clay. Genocide depicts politicians, buried, mutilated and burned victims, accused, judges, musicians, witnesses. paying particular attention to the eyes. When suffering or lacing death, only the eyes truly speak and express the depth of the human being, whatever his or her role may be murderer or victim. At once sculpture, painting, and sonorous universe. Genocide is a multidimensional work where men and women, in the spiral of life and death no longer know if they are spectator or actor.
