Consumption of organic products, fair and supportive, forms of boycott and participation in social mobilization campaigns: it is now clear that these trends growing, although still niche. In this volume are presented and analyzed the results of the first search in Italy which aims to verify through a statistically representative sample the impact on national population practices of so-called responsible consumption. This is the long wave of general climate of uncertainty and insecurity rhetorically expressed in speeches, in symbols and in collective action exploded after the collapse of the Twin towers in September 2001 or is a sign of a profound change of social ties? The reaction to the behaviour strongly individualized society, where traditional institutions such as family, school, Church no longer provide orientation for the action of the individual? This is a crucial question, since in the first case, the phenomenon is contingent and probably almost exclusive interest of market researchers; If instead it is the reflection of a change in the social fabric, has complex implications about the structure of the capitalist system, the role of consumers and their status as citizens, on globalization and interdependence of social actors.
