Original, uniform printed wrappers. = A later (title) edition of this popular work that went through several editions. Written by the French explorer, navy surgeon, ornithologist and ichthyologist René Primivère Lesson (1794-1849). It includes the selection of type species for several genera. Uncut. With the widest possible margins. In front a publisher's announcement for an ornithological work to be published in 1888. There is a distinct difference between the title pages, and the other leaves; the latter perhaps from the original print run. Private owner's stamp on front wrappers and half-titles; wrappers worn at edges, spine covers partly abraded, otherwise very good; clean, unmarked. Nissen IVB, 546; Zimmer, p. 386.
