8vo, br. ed. ex library with pocket but overall very good. 294pp. This book, published in 1979, seeks to present the various writings offered by Marx and Engels on the subject of 'law'. As such, this is really a collection of extracts - taken from the many works of Marx and Engels - that, in some way or another, relate to 'law' (for instance, the book includes extracts that are concerned with 'crime'). The book is arranged in parts - looking at: the 'young' Marx & Engels; 'historical materialism'; 'economic relations'; 'ideology'; the 'state, law and crime'; and 'law and politics'. The authors - Cain and Hunt - are more like editors, as their contribution has been to assemble and introduce the extracts. There is minimal commentary regarding these extracts. If you're after a book that presents what Marx and Engels said about law, this is a good starting place. However, in every other respect it's a limited publication. On this subject, I recommend Marxism and Law (Marxist Introductions) and Marx and Engels on Law and Laws .
